MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

FOP NAMES NEW COMMITTEE CHAIRS

FOP President Walter Powers named three new committee chairs, Larry Reech
as chairman of the FOP Retirement Committee; Chris Prochaska as chairman of
the FOP Cops & Kids Committee, and Gwen Nolan as chairman of the FOP Family
Event Committee.

RETIREMENT COMMITTEE

Chairmen Reech, who also serves on the MPERS Board of Trustees, gave an
in-depth report on the current state of the MPERS Retirement System as well
as an overall historical perspective on how we got to where we are. The
bottom line is that the system is stable and growing, with a 14% return on
investment in the current fiscal year.

Larry’s written report is attached to the minutes and we would urge all
members, active and retired to read it.

Larry Reech has committed to giving a full report at every FOP meeting, so
that our members will be kept up to date on our MPERS system. He is always
available for questions (email: lreech@cox.net cellphone: (504) 473-5473.

FOP COPS KIDS

Chairman Prochaska is working with other NOPD District Community
Coordinating Sergeants to put together FOP sponsored events to assist
children in the various police districts. Some of the ideas being
discussed are providing school supplies to needy children at the beginning
of the next school year; a “shop with a cop” type event at Christmas time,
as well as a pancake breakfast with Santa. Any members with ideas for our
FOP Cops and Kids programs and those willing to volunteer to assist Chris
and his committee can contact Chris at cprochaska@nola.gov.

FOP FAMILY EVENT COMMITTEE

Chairman Nolan is looking at venues, dates and times for a family oriented
event in which members, spouses and children can participate.
Unfortunately, Lt. Nolan was called away from the meeting and was not able
to give a report. We look forward to hearing from her next month.

FOP MEMBERSHIP REPORT

FOP 2nd Vice President Bobby Lampard gave the membership report showing
that the FOP Crescent City Lodge has 1010 active NOPD commissioned police
officer members as of June 10, 2014. With a total department commissioned
strength of just over 1120, the FOP now represents over 90% of NOPD. It
is our understanding that no other association affiliated with our
department has more than 500 commissioned members.

The FOP is constantly looking for ways to better serve our members and our
community, and that work is done by our committee chairpersons. We are
still looking for members to chair a Departmental Award Committee, to honor
members who deserve special recognition for a job well-done; a Community
Service Committee chair to help us all find ways to give back to our
community and a Training Committee chair to provide training to our members
in law enforcement, leadership and labor representation skills. FOP
Committee Chairs who attend the monthly meeting and provide a written
report for inclusion in our minutes are entitled to a $50.00 per diem each
month. Interested members can contact FOP President Walter Powers (
powers.fop@gmail.com) Jim Gallagher (jim6411@fopno.info), or Donovan
Livaccari (dlivaccari@gmail.com).
