FOP TO CO-HOST BIKE REGISTRATION EVENT SUNDAY

The Fraternal Order of Police Crescent City Lodge No. 2 will team up this weekend with NOPD's First, Third and Eighth Districts and with Bike Easy to host a free bicycle registration event.

On Sunday, May 17, 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m., cyclists are invited to bring their two-wheelers to the City Park Green Space in front of the New Orleans Museum of Art and the Sculpture Park, where officers will be on-hand to provide free registration services and offer information about safe and legal operation of bikes on city streets. FOP is paying for the registrations through its "Cops for Kids" program.

Registrants should bring a photo ID and proof of ownership, such as a sales receipt or notarized letter of ownership or transfer. Bike Easy will have a notary on-site to provide such letters at no cost.

"Registering bicycles is one of the best ways to prevent theft and help in the recovery of stolen property," said Sgt. Walter Powers, Jr., president of the FOP.  "We encourage bike owners of all ages to take advantage of this free service."

The registration drive will precede the Bicycle Second Line.  For more information visit www.BikeEasy.org. For more information about the FOP, visit www.FOPNO.com.
