End of Watch: Wednesday, February 8, 1984
Officer Smith was killed in an automobile accident while responding to a stabbing call. Officer Smith was a member of the department's SWAT team.

Thomas J. Albert, Sr.
New Orleans Police Department, Louisiana
End of Watch: Wednesday, February 21, 1979
Captain Albert suffered a fatal heart attack at the 8th District station house after being on duty for over 20 hours without relief, during a period of civil unrest involving over 1,000 striking police officers. The officers had been striking for over two weeks and officers who were not part of the strike, had been working extremely long days for the duration of the strike.

Joseph R. Tardiff, Jr.
New Orleans Police Department, Louisiana
End of Watch: Friday, February 28, 1975
Detective Joseph Tardiff was shot and killed while making a drug bust. Detective Tardiff and two other officers were shot by a hiding gunman when they entered an apartment on St. Peter Street.
Detective Tardiff is survived by his wife and three three children.

Dennis J. McInerney
New Orleans Police Department, Louisiana
End of Watch: Tuesday, February 26, 1974
Patrolman Dennis McInerney was shot and killed while on duty.
Officer Dennis McInerney and his partner were responding to a disturbance call when they were met with gunfire from a single suspect before they could exit their vehicle. The suspect was captured shortly afterward and sentenced to life in prison.
Patrolman McInerney had served with the agency for seven years and had previously served with the United States Army. He was survived by his wife and two children.

Kasimer Zinga, Sr.
New Orleans Police Department, Louisiana
End of Watch: Wednesday, February 21, 1973
Patrolman Kasimer Zinga was killed in an automobile accident while on duty.
Patrolman Zinga had served with the New Orleans Police Department for four years. He was survived by his wife, daughter, son, and three sisters.

Sergeant
Paul L. C. Paretti
New Orleans Police Department, Louisiana
End of Watch: Wednesday, February 13, 1957
Sergeant Paretti was shot and stabbed to death when he went to the aid of a neighbor who was being robbed by seven teenage thugs on his front porch. Sergeant Paretti managed to shoot and critically wound one of the suspects. The other six were apprehended a few hours later. All seven were charged with Sergeant Paretti's murder.
Three of the suspects were convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to life. A fourth suspect was determined to be insane and committed in a state mental institution. The other three suspect's trial resulted in a mistrial.

New Orleans Police Department, Louisiana
End of Watch: Friday, February 4, 1938
Patrolman James Ranna was killed in a motorcycle accident near the intersection of Canal and South St. Patrick Streets.

Frank C. Mahen
New Orleans Police Department, Louisiana
End of Watch: Friday, February 5, 1926
Patrolman Mahen was shot and killed near Maple and Short Streets by a man he and a detective had arrested for being a dangerous and suspicious character.
As they approached the police station in their automobile the suspect opened fire killing Patrolman Mahen instantly. The detective returned fire hitting the suspect twice. The suspect managed to escape but was captured a short time later.

Lemmie L. Fortenberry
New Orleans Police Department, Louisiana
End of Watch: Sunday, February 17, 1924
Patrolman Fortenberry was shot and killed when he interrupted a burglary at a trunk factory at the corner of Baronne and Terpischore Streets.
Witnesses attracted to the scene said they heard two gunshots as Patrolman Fortenberry was grappling with a man outside of the Factory. Both were mortally wounded and died after arrival at the hospital. Two more men were arrested in connection with the burglary.

Patrolman Lynch was electrocuted at Dumaine and North Peters Street.
